POLITICAL RUMOURS.

West Coast papers are discussing the political outlook, and in a recent issue tho “Grey River Argus” says: — “Although it is usually labour in vain to take any notice of pnLtical rumours, least of all when they me not freighted with probability; still, as they form part of the gossip of our daily life, they call for more or less attention. The very latest instance of this 'sort of political small change emanates from a Westport journal, which says that “It is rumoured in well-informed political circles that the Liberal Party is engaged in a determined attempt to set its bouse in order, and, although no details of the proposal have yet been permitted tr to leak out, tho understanding is,that Sir John Findlay and the Hon. R. McKenzie are in the forefront of the movement, paving the way for a reaccession to power of Sir Joseph Ward when he appears on the political stage next session.” Some such attempt as the rehabilitation of the once illpowerful Liberal Party is one of the most natural desires in the world oi politics that might be looked for. But tho story wears an entirely different aspect when Sir John Findlay and the Hon. R. McKenzie are placed at the head of the movement. If these two names had not been so conspicuously associated with the reported movement, that would have left it with an air of probability.. But it is not easy to see how either gentleman could contribute any portion of the element of success to such a movement as the Westport journal would lead tho public to believe is under way. Amongst the most grievous mistakes recorded against Sir Joseph Ward was the unfortunate selection of some of his colleagues.”
