REFORM OF THE LORDS

The House of Commons has passed Lloyd George’s resolutions for the provisional collection of taxes necessitated by the Bowles’ decision. Mr Asquith informed Mr Long that it is undesirable to widen the scope of the Committee of the National Defence- Inquiry, but suggested an inquiry into the wider aspects of Imperial defence, which would be examined in due course. / , The Premier, replying to the question why the Lords’ reform was not taken in hand in 1913, promised to suspend the Commoners’ income tax privilege until the Accounts Committee reported.
