LOST ON MT. RUAPEHU.
THE SEARCH ABANDONED,
(Per Press Association.) Taihape, March 26,
The search party which set out from Ohakune last night to look for Mr Bingham, journeyed a mile up stream and camped till daylight. The members of the party were expected back about noon to-day, hut at seven o’clock no word had been received from them. Messrs. Waters and S. Hubert are not much the worse for their experience, and left for Auckland last night. M iss Coates is improving, and is well on the road to recovery; hut it will he some time before she will he able to get about again, owing to the injuries to her feet and legs, which are very hadlv swollen.
All hope of finding Mr Bingham alive has been abandoned.
One search party returned from the mountain this evening, but they report that they found no trace of the missing man. A party which is searching along the stream where Miss Coates says she last saw Mr Bingham has not yet returned.
