SWIMMING.
At Elthain on Monday, H. Masters and the Kivell brothers distinguislied themselves in tlie West Coast Swimming sports. In tiio seventy-live yards open, Kivell s\vam second to Masters (Gsec), in an even fifty seconds. Masters (.osec.) also won tno fifty yards open in 31 secs, witn C. M. Kivell (Usee) second. Over tno same distance in the under 17 handicap, C. M. Kivell won fairly comfortably, with a Isec. handicap. Masters and If. H. Kivell took the honors in that order in the hundred yards open, the time being Imin 11 1-usee. Masters also won the five-guinea points cup. LAWN TENNIS.
WAX OAA U 1 CHAMPIONSHIPS. tier Press Association.) Wanganui, March 25. With tiie exception of the Ladies’ Singles, the Wanganui Tennis Championships concluded to-day. The number of entries constituted a record, and the class of play was the highest yet seen in Wanganui, many noted players taking part. Jhe Men’s Championship Singles went to Jennings, who beat Butterworth by U—2, B—lo, 6—l. Mrs Whitehead and Mrs Pearce carried off the Ladies’ Championship Doubles, and Dickie and Wallace defeated Lutterworth and Jennings in the final for the Men’s Championship Doubles. Miss Cave and Miss Brewster have to play off in the final for the Ladies’ Singles. BOXING. WALKED OUT. LANGFORD v. BARRY. At the Brisbane Stadium on Saturday night, March 15, before a large house, Sam Langford knocked out Jim Barry in the first round. When the gong brought the men together Langford began to do the forcing. He swung his right, but missed through Barry ducking. The latter, however, sat down, and took the count of four. Langford then gave him a tap on the shoulder, and he went down on his hands and knees and took tinfull count. Then puite unconcerned he walked out of tJig ring to the dresing-room. The audience were dumbfounded, but when they recovered from the shock they let themselves go with hoots and groans, and ugly epithets filled the air. The contest lasted less than half a minute.
