“PAT THE GIANT.”
A FAMOUS IRISH OX. The Yorkshire Herald of December 15, says:— Remarkable scenes were witnessed yesterday afternoon at the York lat Stock Show, where Pat the Giant, Mr F. Lockwood’s famous Irish ox, came into the \salo ring. It is the biggest bullock ever seen, and weighs 214 stones, standing over six feet' high. The sale ring was crowded to sufrocation, and men hung on the fittings, doors, and any coign ol vantage. Hundreds blocked all the corridors and approaches, clinging to the railings and weigh bridge. The beast was sold subject to the right of Mr Lockwood to exhibit it at Leeds Show next week.
Bidding started, amid loud cheering, at £IOO, and rose rapidly to £l5O. Then there was a brief pause, and then, by bids of £5, each greeted with cheers, rose to £lB5, at which pi ice it was sold to Mr Could, butcher of Hull.
The auctioneer’s hammer fell amid resounding cheers.
