At a special meeting of the district committee of the Taranaki Metropolitan Club on Friday afternoon ( C. M. Lepper in the chaif), it was de 7 cided to carioel C. Pearce’s jockey license, and renew Spetlsman s jockey license until.the. end of-the season. .
Dr. Paget writes as follows to the Taranaki Jockey Club:—“l much regret that any statement should have been circulated that the accident to Lucerne was in any way due to a hole in the course.■ ' That statement was made to me, and I told it to some of your stewards in order that if it was so it should be remedied before the race was run, but as soon as I had time I found my informant was in error and have since told all who have asked me that there was no hole. J am quite satisfied that your course was in excellent condition, and in no way contributed to the mare’s accident. 1 have no doubt the press, if asked, will give publicity to tile above statement. With best wishes for the welfare and prosperity of your club.”
