DETERMINED SUICIDE

Wellington, March 17
At the inquest on David I’icot, single man, aged 08, who was fonn
in tho harbour on Saturday, evidence was given that deceased left a letter complaining of a recurrence ot severe mental worries, and expressing his intention of going down to tho harbour and committing suicide. When found, a heavy iron pulley wheel was attached to llio body.
BOATING CLUB LOSES HEAVILY
Christchurch, March 17
The Akaroa Boating Club lost their boat-house, boats, furniture, and trophies by lire, which was discovered at five o’clock. The origin is unknown, and nothing coidd bo done to check tho flames, and tho property was completely destroyed. There was an insurance in the State Office of £750, but tho Club lose heavily.
WELLINGTON HARBOUR BOARD
A SUCCESSFUL YEAR

Wellington, March 17
Tho chairman of tho Harbour Board at tho annual meeting to-day stated that the results of tho last financial year were of the most satisfactory character. Goods passing inwards totalled 489,416 tons, as against 479,806 tons during tho preceding year.
It was also a matter for congratulation that in nearly all branches of exports top figures had been readied. General goods per intercolonial and coastwise totalled 124,179 tons, which is a record. The shipment of frozen meat, butter, cheese, and tallow to British and foreign ports readied 54,185 tons, as against 47,468 tons, last year. The chairman reviewed at length the sound progressing work carried out by the Board during thy vear.
