Fifty cooks at the Criterion Restaurant struck when the place was full of customers. The strikers accuse the management of disregarding the Shops Act. (Received 9.15 a.m.) London, March iC.

The cooks’ strike has spread to several West-End hotels, one of which, the Criterion, has engaged a fresh staff.

Tho outlook in tlio southern mining district is ominous, as tlio industrial inspectorship, which it is understood was to bo given to Russel, who was dismissed from tho Mount Kernbla mine, has been given to another. It is believed tho miners will now fight tlio Russell trouble to a finish.
