PROPOSED NAVAL CONFERENCE. London, January 24. ‘The Times,’ referring to Mr. Pearce’s announcement re the naval conference, remarks that,- the British Government is in nowise unfavourable, but the notice given of the Australian proposal is far too short to permit of arrangements. The selection of a time and place are still under consideration. Owing to the Australian elections it is unlikely that the conference will he arranged before the summer.
