FLAXMILLING INDUSTRY.

POLLUTING THE STREAMS

(Per Press Association.) * Auckland, January 21

A deputation from the Auckland Flaxmillers’ Association waited on the Prime Minister (Mr. W. F. Massey), to draw attention to the fact that a summons was recently issued against a Ngaruawahia flaxmiller for polluting the Waikato River, whereas he had only washed fibre in the water. It was stated that if prosecutions were to he made, it would mean the deathknell not only of flaxmilling, but of the dairying industry. Mr. Massey replied that as the Ngarttavvahia case was still sub judice, it Was impossible to comment on it He had no doubt it was desirable that legislation should be brought down, although there would have to be a good deal of give-and-take on the part both of those engaged in the flaxmilling industry and the Acclimatisation Society who laid the information.
