THE AMOUNT (£10,000) ASSURED. (Per Ptess Association.) Wellington, January 11. The Salvation Army authorities state that the appeal for funds for General Booth’s Memorial is meeting with a ready response. Nine persons have contributed £IOO each; twelve have given £SO; thirty-three £25; nine £2O; and thirty-five £lO each. The total to date is £OOOO, and it is believed that the whole £IO,OOO will bo raised. A sketcli of the plans has been approved for the building which is estimated to cost £7OOO, and will be built in brick to accommodate over fifty students. PUBLIC SERVICE APPOINTMENT. Wellington, January 11. It is understood that Mr. A. J. H. Benge, of the Education Department, has been appointed Secretary of the Public Sor vice Commission.
