A NEW MACHINE GUN. (Received 9.40 a.m.) Melbourne, January 10. A local engineer has invented a gun which he claims as a great improvement on the Maxim. The later invention fires 400 rounds a minute, though a new type shortly issued attains 600 shots a minute. One barrel alone of the now invention fires 460 lIW itftiuate. i The two barrels used alternately give a speed of 1000 a minute. SUBSTANTIAL REWARDS. Melbourne, January 10. The Government is offering £SOO for information leading to the capture of the murderer of Trotter, while the employers are offering £IOO. MOUNT LYELL COMMISSION. Hobart, January 10. At the North Mount Lyell Commission, Mr. Harris, chief electrician at Mount Lyell, said that, electrically, indications of electrical fire were discovered. Mr. Fraser, electrical engineer with a large American experience, said the installation was first-class, and ho was unablb to see how the fire started. The provisions for safety had been well carried out.
