MR. DEAKIN RESIGNS. Melbourne. January 8. Mr. Deakin has resigned the leader ship of tlie Liberals. He informed press interviewers that his resignatior was solely due to ill-health. He wil completely retire from politics aftei the forthcoming campaign- in which In will participate, particularly in con nection with .the referendum. During the past couple of years he greatly fel 1 the strain of leadership. Mr. Fisher expresses profound regret at the causes of Mr. Deakin’; retirement,' and appreciation cf the great services ho has rendered to Aus tralia.
