DATE OF FEDERAL ELECTIONS, (Received 9.55 a.m.) Melbourne, January 9. The Federal elections will probably take place in the middle of May. NORTH MT. LYELL. (Received 10.35 a.m.) Hobart. January 9. At the North Mt. Lyell commission, a minute from the Lyell branen of the Federtrl Mining Engineers’ Association was produced. It showed that the secretary on June 10th wrote to the Mines Department stating that the means of escape from North Mt. Lyell mine were insufficient. Two bodies have b3lmP *r<lc(?vdfsl, making ten out of forty-two victims. It is expected that others will bo recovered in a few days.
