Mr Gokhale states that the situation in regard to the Indians in the Transvaal is worse since the overthrow of the Boers, while Natal’s indentured system is almost slavery. As long as the Europeans feared an Indian invasion there was no chance of reasonable conditions. The paper favoured restriction of immigration and insisted on the rights of Indians already there.
