A presentation is to be made to Mr. E. W. Webster, retiring manager of Mr. Newton King’s local branch, at a, function to be held in the Foresters’ Hall on December 21st.

The ‘Opunake Times’ records the death of Mr. William Jeffries, at his residence, Manihi Road, yesterday morning, at the age of 76. For several years past he was invalided and underwent a great deal cf pain and suffering. Deceased arrived in the colony in 1842, landing at Nelson, being then five years of age. _ He had been a- resident of the district for 29 years. His wife predeceased him seventeen .years ago, and he leaves two sons—Messrs. Charles Jeffries (Rahotu) and William Jeffries (Wellington), and two daughters—Mrs. Herbert Harrison (Wanganui) and Mrs. Barr Brown (Mana-ia).
