GENERAL CABLES.

SYDNEY ITEMS. Sydney, November 15. In the event of a gas strike in Sydney there is only two days’ supply. There has been a recurrence of trouble with the mutton butchers at Glebe Island. An agreement was reached to resume work, pending a review of the award, which has caused a cessation, in the meantime. Seventy-four summonses have been issued against the participators in last week’s strike. ■The 1 men now decline to resume work unless the summonses are withdrawn. One hundred and fifty are involved. The trouble is seriously interfering with the meat supply. Two steamers landed nearly 2000 immigrants to-day. Mr. Bceby states that the law will not allow a withdrawal of the butchers’ summonses. . A heat wave is being experienced over the State. The thermometer stood at 9Gdeg. in' the city yesterday, and at 99 to-day. Many country records were over 100. At Boiirke it was 106. Mr. Griffith is making financial arrangements for the Water Board, whereby the bulk of the thousand men threatened with dismissal will be retained. The Silvertown will start at daylight laying the Auckland cable.
