VILLAGES ABLAZE. Vienna, October 10. Albanian villages northward of Bowana River are ablaze. HARASSING REFUGEES. Numerous sought refiigb at Scutari, but the Montenegrins fired rifles at them for upwards of an hour. An Austrian steamer proceeding from Bojauo to Cattero was likewise fired on. THE STATUS QUO, B. Borchtold, in thanking the Hungarian delegations for the vote of confidence, said the monarchy had associated itself with the Great Powers to preserve the status quo in the Balkans,: where Austria iiad vital interests which it was determined to preserve.
HARBOUR BOARD AND UNION. “IF.” \ (Per Press Association.) Wellington, October 11. Mr Fletcher, chairman of the Harbour Board, replying to the Waterside Union’s notification to have a holiday on Wednesday next in sympathy with the Waihi demonstration, reminds the Union of their agreement, and points out that this holiday will ho a breach of the same. If the Union carries out its intention, the only course left open to him will bo to carry on the Board’s business to the best possible advantage with whatever labour is available. NOT ANTI-MILITARY. (Per Press Association.) Pahiatua, October 11. The Borough Council, when the Peace Society’s Circular came forward last night, passed the following resolution unanimously, “that no action be taken in the matter, Pahiatua not being an anti-military town and as far as can be seen being in sympathy with the Defence system.”
