London, October 3. The Springboks defeated Somerset by 24 points to 3. BOXING. ‘Wellington, October 4. A professional boxing contest of fifteen rounds for the welter-weight championship of New Zealand was fought to-night between Denny Murphy, of New Zealand, the present champion, and Lyn Truscott, the Australian champion. The full fifteen rounds were fought. Truscott won on points.
