TROUBLE AT THE WHARVES. SERIOUS TRAP COLLISION. (Per Press Association.) Oamaru, October 4. There was a dispute between the labourers and the Union S.S. Co.’s foreman this morning in respect to putting on men to work the Koromiko, which led to a number refusing to work. The men allege that the foreman showed favouritism to some men who attended the Kurow races yesterday, in spite of the fact that work was being done at the wharves, by putting on the forward hatch, bis method of calling beiog different to that usually employed. Efforts were made towards conciliation throughout the morning, but without avail. The forward hatch only of the Koromiko being worked. The position will be considered at a meeting of the union tonight.

James H. Foster, custodian of the Government buildings, and his daughter, Eva Marion, went for a drive, when the horse bolted. The trap collided with another trap coming in the opposite direction, and both vehicles overturned,, the occupants being thrown out. The occupants of the second trap escaped unhurt, but Foster and his daughter were badly hurt. Miss Foster sustained a fracture of the skull in two places, and her condition is hopeless. Foster received a severe scalp wound, and an injured nose, hut hopes are entertained of his recovery.
