REPORT OF EMPLOYERS’ FEDERATION. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, September 25. An interesting return, summarising the strikes in New Zealand since the inception of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, to August 31st last, is contained in the antiual report of the Employers’ 1* oderatiou. The figures show strikes coming within the scope of tho Act 31, strikes outside,the scope of tho Act 35; total number of strikes 66. The number of disputes included in tho total which may be classed as trivial or unimportant is 35; cases in which men wore fully successful 21; cases in which employers were fully successful 17; cases in’ which compromises were effected 28; average duration of‘all strikes, not including trivial cases, number 2 clays; total number of strikers, excluding trivial Cases, 2596; number of men rendered idle by strikes, not including trivial cases, 4723 approximate loss in wages, to workmen concerned (average £6 10s), £30,382; approximate loss to employers, £40,63 ! ; total amount of fines inflicted on strikers, £1917; total amount collected to date (80 per cent) £1523; total number of strikes from year to year, 1894 to 1905, nil; 1906, one; 1907, twelve (all slaughtermen); 1908, twelve ; 1909, four, 1910, eleven ; 1911, fifteen, 1912, to date, eleven; total 66. This total includes 12 strikes of slaughtermen, which practically was one sympathetic strike spread over tho whole Dominion; six wore within tho scope of tho Act, and six outside. It is, says the annual report of tho Federation, within the mark to state that tho Wailii and Rcofton strikes have cost tho companies affected and workers out of employment not less than £200.000.
