THE WESTMEATH ASHORE. Sydney, September 17. The Underwriters' Association arc advised that the steamer Westmeath, en route to New Zealand, grounded at Liverpool. Sufficient cargo lias been discharged to enable her to dock. THE VEND CASE. Sydney, September 17. Arguments in the Vend appeal case ended abruptly. The Bencli did not call upon appellants to reply at any length. Counsel made a short address, covering the Crown's arguments. The Chief Justice stated that it was very important for many reasons that the case should be ended immediately. He would endeavour to give judgment this week, probably on Friday. FLOODS IN VICTORIA.
Melbourne, September 17. The rivers are still rising. Two men using a cattle trough were rescued, also two refugees in tree tops in the Ooulburn river.
