Mr Griffith, referring to the Council's rejection of the Savings Bank Bill, said the time had come to elect representatives of the people and compel the Council to stand aside by abolishing it altogether or putting in sufficient up-to-date democrats to force them to comply with the will of the people. Mr Carmichael, speaking at Freshwater, foreshadowed a decentralisation policy and the creation of new ports to relieve Sydney, including differential railway rates. Mr Griffith, referring to tho recent charges against him as conspiracy, said he had never received money for his public services beyond his salary. The mombcrs of the varipus trade combines were trying to drive him out of pub lie- life, but he challenged them all to come. The weathc-r is unseasonable, being hot and dry, with strong westerly gales, causing considerable damage.
