SCIENTIFIC FARMING
(Per Press Aissocfation.) Timaru, September 9. Mr M. MeLeod, 8.A., in Jiis prcsintial address to the District Educartftal Institute, said that a great agmltnral education was fairly well bablished in the primary schools, but would be of no real value until it is carried on through the secondary ptols and through the University, r would experimental farms be of ich value until the farmers were fcter instructed in scientific methods agriculture. This should be rankin the universities with chemistry, lyrics, botany, mathematics or La- (. Thus, farming would be raised the popular estimation among the Sessions, and the tide now flowing m the country to the towns would [ checked. The university must te the first step, as its requiresnts were to fix the aims- of the :ondary schools. The meeting deled to send a remit to the Teachers' nference that the university authoris be asked to make agriculture a Meet for the B.A. and B.Sc. deses.
