BOY LABOUR.

EDUCATION BOARD'S PROTEST. (Per Press Association.) Timaru, May 28. At the Education Board tc-day the Chairman said 'that the scarcity ol teachers was becoming more pronounced. The Waihiate school was two teachers short, and teachers were needed for four or five country scho lis, but so far the Board had been unable to obtain them. To-day three applications were in for four of these country schools. The Board declined to take any steps to assist the.officer recruiting telegraph messengers and cadets. A member remarked that too many boys sought town employment now ; and he would rot encourage picking out the best boys for the town, when intelligent boys were so much wanted on farms. "Another said that they would be reducing the chances ol geltine; good pupil-teachers. The secretary stated that telegraph hoys were better paid than pupil-teachers.
