Lord Denman cabled to His Majesty announcing Mr Hairs gift, and ha.' received the, following reply: "1 re ceived with a feeling of much satisfaction and appreciation the announcement of the munificent gift." Sydney, May 23. The rain has cleared off. The droughl areas were practically not benefited. The third final count for the Pari Curtis election gives Braslin, the Labour candidate, a majority of two. On the first count Braslin had a ma jority of one, and on the second couni there was a dead heat. Melbourne, May 23. Mr Fisher, replying to criticisms oi the Federal financial policy, said thai he was determined that there choulc be no 'more borrowing, excepting ii the Case of war or other emergency. and t-liat the policy of the Governmcni would be much sounder than r.nde; a system of borrowing in time oi peace and prosperity.
