OUT EAST.
(By Our Travelling Reporter.) The funeral of the late Mrs A. Klee took place on Tuesday last at the Whanga cemetery. Great sympathy was felt and expressed by the community ivith Mr Klee in his sad bereavement. The attendance at the funeral ceremony was the largest that ihus ever been known in Whangamomona. There were numerous wreaths and floral offerings from Messrs Court and Cottier, Mr Klee's fellow employees, McCluggage Bros., football club, and numerous friends. The .funeral ceremony was performed by the Rev. Kempthorne, of Fitzroy.
It is well to have a veterinarian at hand .some times. Messrs Court ami Cottier had a valuable horse which was taken ill. Luckily Mr Bee re, the local Stock Inspector, happened to be present in the township anil his aid was invoked with' the result that a horse apparently in a hopeless state of collapse revived under his treatment, and is now as well as ever.
The Public Works Department is now running the ballast train within a quarter of a mile of the proposed Mangere Road siding. The day of tramping through the Whangamomona tunnel is nearly passed. The proposed tramway from Mangere Road siding is being actively prepared for by the Department. It is expected that it Mill be in Whanga in about six weeks' time if the weather is propitious. Whanga had a large number of visitors on Tuesday last, among them being Mr Beere, Inspector of Stock, Sergeant McNceiy, Mr Gray, Sanitary Inspector, quite a batch of officials. Messrs Anderson, Coleman and Robinson were paying their usual monthly visit.
Mr Macdonald, late of Messrs Spencc and Stanford, Stratford, is now in charge of Mr Anderson's ofiice in Whanga". The .social to be held here on Empire Day promises to be a great success, a large number of tickets having been sold. It is reported that the Public Works Department officials are contemplating the closing of Mangere Road to vehicular and horse traffic. The question rises as to how the settlers arc to get supplies to their sections.
The shareholders of the Whangamomona dairy - factory held a meeting and decided to continue operations next season, several new suppliers being proposed.
Airs Rogers and family have returned from Stratford and arc now living at the new ihouse erected by the Department at Tahora. Mr Hay ward of this town intends to take a trip through Australasia. Mr H. Blair's friends will be interested to know that he has taken to fanning pursuits.
Mr I). B. Howard is erecting a branch store at Tahora saddle. ft is interesting to note that Mr Ferguson, Overseer of Works, has had to invest in an Arab, consequent upon the state of the roads. Mr Haywal'd and Mr Archie Brodie are both leaving for trips to recruit themselves.
