ALLEGED MEAT RING. (By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright.) (United Press Association.) (Received 9, 8.50 a.in.) Perth, May 0. The Town Clerk of Freeman tie, reporting against- the Government proposal to erect State abhatoirs, makes strong charges against an alleged meat ring. He shows that cattle are exported to Asiatic countries at a much cheaper rate than they are supplied locally. He advocates a prohibitive export duty as the most effective means to check the ring and secure cheaper prices. LONDON TALLOW SALES. (Received 9, 8.50 a.in.) London, May 8. Tallow : 1211 casks were offered and (508 sold. Mutton, fine, 37s 3d; medium, 34s Gd; beef, fine, 3Gs 6d; me- s diurn, 33s Gd. EXPORT OF POTATOES. (For Press Association.) ; Wellington, May 8. Mr 0. W. Kirk explained To representatives of leading potato merchants to-day the difficulty in regard to the export of potatoes to Australia. Ho said that the Department was doing , all it could to obtain a relaxation of 1 the conditions, but the regulations im- 1 posed by the Commonwealth must he adhered to. It was stated by agents that farmers would not assist them in regard to certifying, as required by the regulations, owing to the market having risen and farmers hoping that contracts would be cancelled. Mr Kirk said he would sec in a few days if anything could he done to bring about an improvement. He denied that lie had boon responsible for holding recent shipments up in Sydney. The horse fair report published yesterday was of Mr. Newton King’s sale, this fact not being stated in the published report.
