The Supreme Court criminal coscions opened before Judge Chapman, who, jin h’s charge to the Grand Jury, remarked that the calendar was the shortest in his experience in Wellington. His Honour called special attention to the case of Richard Bagge, committed from Mastcrton by Justices on a charge of stealing a horse and cart. “No case,” said the Judge, “was made out for his committal.” The prosecutor said he sold accused a horse and cart, his grievance apparently being that ho did not receive his money. Ac the worst, that was a case of a man running away without paying a. debt. The sale took place in 1903. If the evidence was as ind : catedj"che jury would see that no case of stealing had been made out.”
