Sydney, April 1. The, Warrogo, the destroyer locally put together, satisfactorily completed short distance speed tests. Twenty youths were charged with failing to attend compulsory training drill. Thei defence raised the point that proceedings could not be taken until the expiration of the statutory year. The Magistrate upheld the point 'and dismissed The cases. Harry Holland, a Socialist leader, was then charged with preventing his son from rendering personal service. The Magistrate considered the offence serious and fined Holland £IOO. Sydney, April 2. The Show opens to-day. The entries are a record. The city is crowded and it is impossible for many new arrivals to obtain accommodation. Melbourne, April 2. The oat crop for 1911-12 is 302,238 acres or 4,585,326 bushels, compared with 392,681 acres and 9,699,127 bushels for the previous year. Port Moresby, April 2. Frank Pryke, leader of the Government prospecting expedition in Papua, reports being treacherously attacked by natives on the Bailala River. Pryke received an armed body, and replied with rifle fire, killing one native. The others fled. Perth, April 2. A Manilaman fatally stabbed Constable Fletcher at Broome. He was arrested.
