THE TERRITORIALS.

CAMP AT RANGIORA. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, March 30. A half battalion of the thirteenth reg'ment of infantry went into camp at Rangiora to-day. The men attending have been drawn from a wide area extending from Cheviot to Belfast and Kaiapoi, and out to Springfield. Major A. E.< Loach is the officer in charge. The northern contingent arrived by train during the day at Rangiora from various northern stations, and about 150 men from Southbridge, Springfield, and other southern dstricts reached Christchurch during the morning, and went on to Rangiora by train at midday. Other contingents went on from Christchurch at ,5 p.m., and by later trains. All the men, when seen at Christchurch, seemed to be keen on the camp, and to have entered enthusiastically into the spirit of the work. The camp will last until next Saturday night. On May 31st, the end of the first vear of training for the Territorials will have arrived. It should be borne in mind that in order to be efficient a certain amount of drills must be put in. Since the parades "commenced officially from November last, the number required will only be n proportion of the thirty one-and-a-half-hour parades, six- full days or 12 half-day parades with a week's camp, that is required to be attended by every Territorial for the year's training. The term "efficient" needs some explanation. A Territorial can only have this term applied to his year's training if he has attended the full number of parades required. His .ength of service depends upon the number of years he has served with efficiency, so that if a Territorial is anxious either for promotion or to get out of the force he will have -to see that he keeps his parade attendance > up to the :rark.
