EDUCATION BOARD.

Monthly Meeting. The Education Board resumed its monthly meeting yesterday mom mg, the chairman (Mr H. Trimble' presiding. Overseer’s Report. The Overseer’s monthly report read as follows:—Douglas: The now school at Douglas is completed and is now occupied. Waihi: Good progress is being made with the erection of the new 1 school at Waihi. The school is covered in and the foundations completed for the residence. Pukearuho: Sites of the new school and residence have been marked out, anu the material will be on the ground shortly. Awatuna: The repairs to the school residence will be put m band as soon as the timber is on t!icgivnhd. Mangorei: He pi op- sc o painting and repairing both Mangorei schools as soon as possible. Repairs were also needed at Lepperton, while at Tuna the teaeheer’s residence was receiving attention. Fitzroy: Before painting, the Fitzroy school needed certain repairs. Puniho: The residence and shelter shed have been painted. General: The exceptionally wot weather has retarded several small jobs. At Waihi all hands had to be put on to get the new school covered in.

Tiie report was received. The matter of repairs at iGt/roy and the blinds at Lepperton scliool was referred to the chairman, with power to act. The Board also decided that the application'for a porch and washhouse at thoschool residence at Fitzroy - could not bo entertained, as the house was not occupied by the teacher. Scholarships' Endowir.snt Conference. Intimation was received from Mr W. Bewley, secretary of the New Plymouth High School Board, that the conference to deal with the Taranaki Scholarships endowment had been, arranged for Friday, April 12, at 11 'a.nr., at the Borough Council Chambers, New Plymouth. ;

In connection with the same matter the Wanganui Education .Board notified that it had appointed Messrs Dixon and O’Dea as its representatives at the conference. The Board decided to be represented at the conference by the chairman .(Mr H. Trimble), Mr Morton and the Chief Inspector (Mr W. A. BalJantyne). General. A. Wake applied for an allowance on account of the scholarship granted to his son,-who was now at the Wanganui Collegiate School.— ,The secretary was instructed to reply to Mr Wake that as lie had failed to apply to the Board for permission to transfer the tenure of his sou’s scholarship to Wanganui, and as the Board had no notification that the lad liad taken advantage of his secondary education, , the scholarship had been otherwise dealt with. The sum of £B4 was authorised to he paid to the Public Trustee for the Waihi School site, and it was decided to apply to the Department for the amount: The chairman was authorised to complete the transfer of section 11, Pukearuhe district, from Alfred E. Watkin to the Board. In reply to the Public Works Department, it was decided to ask the Resident Engineer if it were possible for him to find some place farther from the school for the erection of a magazine for explosives at Whangamomona.. The Inspector-General of Schools (Mr, G. Hbghcn) intimated that special grants distributed last year to education hoards for training of teachers in subjects of manual and techcnical instruction would be renewed for the year ending March 31, 1913. The amount allotted to the Board was £l2o—“News.”
