In the Wairarapa-; natWe lease case to-day Mr Bell emphatically repudiated Mr Skorrett’s allegations of fraud and pointed out that there was absolutely no tittle of evidence in support of the statements. Mr Skerrett repeated the allegations and said advantage was deliberately taken of a minor in foisting on her a deed that was not binding. .'Mr Bell said it was absolutely shocking that Mr Skerrett should repeat the statement. Mr Skerrett objected to personal criticism. The case was adjourned for a surveyor’s report and for argument. Hokitika, February 16.

An unusual charge was heard in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, the holder of a publican’s license being charged with also being a member of a firm of auctioneers. Counsel for the defence stated that he was not a member. The Magistrate stated no offencp had been disclosed under the Act and that he had no jurisdiction, the subject being one entirely for consideration by the Licensing Committee. He dismissed the charge. Large search parties, continue looking for the victims of the Big Wanganui River fatality, but so far without success .
