Wellington, February 13

A dramatic incident marked the close of the service at St. James’ Church, Lower Hutt, on Sunday. Whilst the Rev. W. Cross was delivering the sermon a member of the congregation named Robin, was noticed behaving very peculiarly. He appeared very agitated and at the conclusion of the service when Mr Cross retired to the vestry he was promptly followed by Robin, who began shouting and yelling at the minister. His attitude was so bellicose that the reverend gentleman, anticipating trouble, said: “Stand back, Robin, or I’ll knock yon down.” Robin then pulled out a knife and made to attack the clergyman, who closed with him and threw him to the* floor. Others, hearing the noise, entered the room and secured Robin till the police arrived. lit is understood that two doctors yesterday pronounced IL> bin mentally unbalanced.
