LABOUR CONFERENCE.
THE AID OF NEW ZEALAND SOUGHT. MOTIONS ON MANY MATTERS. (Received 12, 9 a.m.) Hobart, January 12. At the Labour Conference a motion that in the event of constitutional power being obtained a national sugar refinery'-'should- be. established, was carried'. It was also agreed that publicly owned ironworks were an urgent necessity. It, was decided to send. a letter of fraternhl greetings to the Social, Democratic Party in Germany, visiting them success at the ciecjions.
A motion by Messrs. Fisher and AicGowen that negotiations for closer industrial and commercial relatione yitii New Zealand should be opened 'mmediately was carried. Mr. Fisher declared that it war veil known that trouble in the Pacific would have to be met by all Australisia. They should sound New Zoalaud’s opinion.
Mr. McG owen said a widened federation by the inclusion of New Zealand was necessary for the welfare of the States.
A motion that State members should be ekgible to contest Federal seats without resigning was carried.
