Mr Lloyd-Gebrge at a religious conference at Cardiff said the spasmodic appeal for charity was a hopelessly inadequate remedy for the social problem. They might as well tiy to run the army and navy by voluntary subscriptions. 'lucre was more poverty to-day than ever, yet there was a sufficiency of wealth to make provision for it. They could not touch any evil in the country without finding interests liourishing theieon. It was the duty of the churches to compel the rulers of the country to realise their responsibility in the matter.
