ENGLISH SPINNERS

London, December 27

Tt is calculated that if, as is generally expected, the spinning mills in South-east Lancashire close owing to to-day’s impending lock-out in the Blackburn and Burnley weaving districts, three hundred thousand will be idle.

Mr. Crinlon, president cf the Amalgamated Association, declared that if the masters of the South-east Lancashire mills interfere they must reckon with the operatives of Oldham and other centres beiore the mills will be allowed to resume. Ho mentioned a number of old grievances which required remedying. It Is reported in Blackburn that Sir G. R. Askwith has asked for full details in connection with the Lancashire dispute.

ENGLISH TRAMWAY IDLE. London, December 27. The electric tramway system in the Llanelly district has been suspended, owing to the strike for recognition of the union. EXTREME UNIONISM. (Received 29, 9.50 a.m.) London, December 27. Notices have been posted in all mills in the North and North-east of Lancashire that they will close tonight. The Spinners’ Federation has decided to curta’l the 'production by three days weekly. The “Daily News” ouestions the wisdom of unions in calling on the capitalists to practically enforce union discipline instead of trusting to esprit de corps. Other Liberal newspapers discourage the unions’ extreme action. MINERS’ FUNERALS. (Received 28, 9.5 a.m.) Sydney, December 28. The Broken Hill miners have rescinded the motion recently adopted that in the event of a member of the Association being killed in any mine the whole of the members would cease work for one shift. WELLINGTON TRAMWAYS. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, December 27. The Wellington tramway men have withdrawn the threat to strike on New Year’s Day, unless Inspector Fuller, ticket checker, is removed from the service. The City Council will hold a special meeting next Wednesday to investigate the union’s allegations against Fuller.
