PERILS OF THE SEA.

THE DISMAL AND DANGEROUS MACQUARIES.

AN INQUIRY ORDERED

(Per Press Association.)

• Invercargill, December 21. A Hobart cable message to Mr Joseph Hatch, the owner, states that the schooner Clyde, has been wrecked at the Macquaries. All hands were saved and returned to Hobart by the Antarctic tender vessel the Toroa, which also brought up 259 casks of oil the Clyde purchased at Wellington last August. It was her first trip to the Macquaries. She was uninsurable, and without steam power. Coming immediately after the loss of the Jessie Niehol, the further loss is very unfortunate. Captain W. Smith was in command. An inquiry has opened at Hobart.
