Gisborne, December 19

The first local option in respect of the Maori race was hold to-day in the Takitimu Maori Council district in common with similar polls in Horouta (Waiapu), Arawa (Rotorua), and Northern Wairoa Maori Council districts. r J he poll was taken for the purpose of deciding whether liquor shall or shall not he supplied to Maoris of the districts mentioned. The question was—Shall liquor he supplied to the Maoris? Tim poll resulted :

Takittimu—Yes, 562; No, 232

Horouta—Yes, 386; No, 550 Arawa—Yes, 413; No, 131.
