WHANGAMOMONA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The weather still remains rough and wintry. There was even a slight frost early on Saturday morning. Tne roads arc in a fearful state lor me Christmas trallic between the railway and the township. A great many have already left here for flic holidays, and by Christmas the township will be a very quiet spot. The increased railway facilities are largely responsible for the genera! exodus.

An aerated water factory, will) ;.r up-to-datc plant, lias hcen started here by Air 11. Jakes. Wjitii the population wo have and the difficulty always experienced by Traders here oi getting that class of goods in, the venture should meet with general approval and support. The groat AVhanga tunnel is nearing completion, the blocking being finished. The work of taking out the temporary rails will bo commenced shortly, so we are within measurable dis:ance now of a ballast train service ;iglit through to the Alungero Road. The local school breaks up for the Jhristmas holidays on Thursday, l)o----;amber 2lst, when the annual prize-

riving •will take place. The Wlianga lock-up lias been used ;everal times lately, and the offend-

ers have been dealt with by our local I.P.

The building trade will be very brisk bis summer. The,state of the roads, naking the cartage of timber a beav;, tern, has been all against the builder ;o far, but we arc hoping for improvcneat now that the longest day is alnost upon us.

Air S. Morrison is leaving this wcel ’or a fortnight’s holiday at Tauranga

A set of disc barrows was landed here last week to the order of Air E. VlcCluggagc, who is cultivating a new section on the AVhanga. road. These lungs give tangible proof of our ad-

amcement from the days of primitive rush farming' to more complete meliotls by which farmers may get full •oturns from that great wealth problem*, the soil.
