LAWN TENNIS.

The St. Andrew’s Tennis Chib played their first match this season on the W.Y.M.I. courts yesterday afternoon. The weather was very unpromising in the morning, but cleared up beautifully during the afternoon, and in spite of the cold wind blowing the sets were heartily enjoyed and keenly contested by all the players. The result was very close, the W.Y.M.I. team winning by 5 games. Detailed scores are as follows (W.Y.M.I. players being mentioned first in each case): — SINGLES (Gents.)

The match between the New Plymouth players and the Stratford Tennis Club was not played, the weather looking so unpromising that the Now Plymouth team was advised not to make the trip. It is possible that the match ■ will be played next Thursday, weather permitting, but nothing definite has yet been decided.
