SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The Stratford School Committee met last evening, when there were present: Messrs. C. D. Sole (chairman), Clark, McMillan, Butcher, Skoglund, Smart,’ and Stewart, and the Head' Master (Mr. F. Tyrer). Messrs. Boon Bros, wrote, asking that permission be granted to allow them the use of the gymnasium shed for the purpose of building the roof principals for the new school. Ihe request was acceded, to. Correspondence was also received from the office of the Minister of Agriculture, stating that the committee's objection to the proceeds, of the Opakau Reserve being alienated from tiioitf present purpose, was being referred to the Education Department for a 'report.' The Visiting Committee reported that they had visited the school, and found everything running as smoothly as. possible under the circumstances' ‘under which the school 'was being conducted. They proposed that tho committee pass a' resolution to the effect chat it did not feel inclined to reopen. the school for the New Year unii/Hhe fi'dw"building was available for occupation.—The report was adopted, and it was decided to forward a copy of it to the Board. The Head • Master’s report stated "hat in connection with the '■election and distribution of prizes it would be necessary, to appoint a sub-committee to confer with him. He proposed to have the prizes presented in the various class rooms on Thursday, • 21st, at about, 2 p.m. He suggested that the committee discuss the advisability ;f procuring, for prizes in future years, books specially bound for tho ( school. Such books might be a little more costly, but certainly would be of more value to their recipients, in future years. He would need The assistance of members of the committee on Thursday evening at the concert. Judging hy the numbers of tickets already sold by the school children, a full house was already assured.—Tho report was adapted. Messrs Skoglund and McMillan wore appointed a sub-committee to procure prizes. It was decided to thank Mr Bert Hoyle for donating tiie £3 3s royalty on ‘Trial by* Jury” to the school funds.
Messrs McMillan and Stewart were appointed visiting committee for tho ensuing month.
