TEE INSURANCE BILL

The Grand Master and the directors of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows appealed to tiic House of Lords to refuse to pass the Insurance Bill during the piesent session, to give the country time to consider. The Hearts or Oak organisation petitioned trie House of Lords regarding a proposed amendment to give the benefit from t-lie first day of sickness. The president of the National Conference of Friendly Societies hopes the House of Lords will ignore the Oddfellows and Hearts of Oak. It is understood that all but six clauses are protected by the House of Commons privileges in collection with Money Bills.

COMMITTEE ON ESTIMATES

London, December fl. Members of the House of Commons of all parties memorialised the Premier to form a standing committee upon the Estimates. The memorialists said that the increase of expenditure justifies the anxiety as to future stability. Finance committees would be able to prevent waste and to ascertain whether heads of departments properly controlled heir 7 departments while the Estimates were being prepared.
