MINERS’ SAD PLIGHT.

New York, December 10. An explosion occurred in the main mine at the cross mountain system at Knoxville,, which entombed .probably a hundred miners. Throngs of women and children are besieging the shaft-mouth.

Three entombed men escaped by a lateral shaft.

Rescue parties were driven out by the flames without seeing any signs of the victims. . Little is expected to he done till the fire is subdued.
