NARROW ESCAPES.

THREE CHILDREN IN BURNING BUILDING.

TWO SEVERELY BURNT,

(Per Press Association.)

Auckland, December 8

A fire in Eden Street, Mount Eden, last night destroyed a six-roomed house occupied by Mr R. Riley. Two neighbours observed the outbreak and found Mrs Riley lying on the verandah of the burning building in night attire in a semi-conscious state. She murmured that there were three children in the building and then collapsed. One child, son of Mrs Martin (who is Mrs Riley’s sister), was rescued from a back room. He was severely burnt and was taken to the hospital. One other little boy was found suffering from burns, but less seriously. A third child, a little girl, escaped without injury. Mrs Riley is suffering severely from shock. The origin of the fire is- unknown.
