UNIVERSAL HALF HOLIDAY.
(To the Editor “Stratford Post.”) Sir,—ln reply to the letter appearing in Saturday’s issue over the name “Retailer” : Nearly all the questions asked therein can be provided with a satisfactory answer by a re-perusal of my original letter. I deny having thrown “much weight in favour of Saturday,” as that portion of my letter quoted by “Retailer” is simple fact. The reason for publishing of same is to give objectors to a Saturday half-holiday the opportunity of acquainting the local governing body of their views, and to let those objectors know that a largo section favour Saturday half-holiday. The weekly halfholiday cannot be fixed by a Retailers’ Association any more than it can he fixed by a Chamber of Commerce. The local governing body fixes it and every elector has a right to consideration irrespective of his position, be it retailer, accountant, auctioneer, land agent, lawyer, or any other calling; and in this lies the reason that my chamber invited delegates from those governing bodies. lam pleased that “Retailer” has taken the matter up, because the object my chamber has in view is to give effect to the views of the majority, and they would sincerely regret the adoption of action whicn would not be in accoi’d with
same. Thanking you in anticipation, I am, etc., J. B. RICHARDS, Hon. Sec., Stratford Chamber of Commerce. Stratford, December 4th.
