WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS IX
MASTERTON?
A “TRADE” COUNTERBLAST
(Per Press Association i Masterton, December 1
A mooting of the executive committee of citizens appointed by the business people of Masterton, who favour restoration, was held this morning, at wnich the following resolution was passed:-—“That the report published by Messrs. .Trewin and McIntyre, of Feilding, through the Press Association, in regard to the Hammoiid-MacManaway challenge,' is not true in ihany respects. We lincl that the first place referred to evidently is Little’s garage. One part of the building was occupied as a
garage and another part by, at one time, a baker’s shop, and, at another, by a saddler. They were distinctly two shops. 'The Central Hotel photo referred to the hotel only, and shops could not well have been left one. Long’s meat mart was empty, and still is. 'The Temple Chambers, occupied by Trewin and Mclntyre, have never been empty, bat the photo shows a card in the window bearing the legend: “To Let. Apply E„ Waddington.”' Tire bottles were photographed on or about the 7tb August, r9li. A similar pile, collected since then, can bo seen to-day. In addition to empty business premises photographed, the following is a list of others now vacant:—Sonoma 'Boarding House, Nichols’; Auction Mart, MacLean’s' Auction Mart, Mrs. Adams (fancy goods), Dominion Cafe, Pauling and Taylor’s grocers’ shop in Pine Street, also a niost important industry has been closed—namely, Lamb’s Tararua Vineyard, comprising eight acres.
