In our report of the laying of the foundation-scone ceremony at Stratford the otiier day, and tne presentation of medals to Collins and Dodd, it was inadvertently stated that Dodds was absent and Collins present, whereas the reverse should have boon stated.
Dennis Needham, a young son of Mr. Arthur Needham, ol Douglas, met with an accident yesterday morning which might easily have resulted fatally.' It appears he had just returned from the factory, and was unloading cans containing skim-milk from the cart, when his horse suddenly took fright and ran away. The cart, striking a log, overturned on top of young Needham. One milk can hit turn on the head, inflicting a very painful scalp wound. Mrs. Arthur Walter, who happened to lie near at the time, rendered first-aid, and Dr. Carbery was sent for. To-day young Needham is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances, bis condition being considered very satisfactory.
A somewhat serious complaint was made to us to-day by Mr W. H. Rutledge, of Mirhirst. He states that pilfering was somewhat common in the home industries section at the show, and that while his wife’s back was turned her little girl saw a . lady approach her mother’s exhibit of cocoanut ice, sweep it into her basket, and depart. Speaking to others .on the matter Mr Rutledge heard of other cases, including one in which a young lady who makes excellent bread had some much inferior stuff substituted for her exhibit. Mr Rutledge is naturally very angry at the occurrence and expresses the opinion that the show will suffer if something is not done to safeguard exhibits.
