Mr. John Hammond, at a banquet, gave the inside history of tho Jameson raid. The’ chief agitators were Americans, who did not act at any time under tho British hag. The impositions of President Kruger were such as no Anglo-Saxon could stand for asi nglc minute. Dr. Jameson entered the reform movement against the wishes of others., Kruger played false towards the Reform Committee. He gave the, men to understand that if they pleaded guilty they would merely be fined. Instead they were condemned to death. Secretary 01ney’s intervention alone saved tho reformers from execution within 24 hours.
