SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

RAILWAY BRIDGE WORKER’S

SKULL FRACTURED

CONDITION STILL CRITICAL

A most unfortunate accident occurred yesterday morning during the operations in connection with the replacing of the wooden railway bridge by. steel girders. It appears that William Stewart, aged about 35, a loading hand in the bridge construction party, was struck by a falling trestle which, it is stated', fell without warning when the girders were lifted up, striking Stewart a slanting blow on tho side of the head and fracturing his skull at tho base. The injured man was at once removed to the Stratford hospital and late last night his condition was found to be so serious that Dr Carbery (who is acting Medical Superintendent during tiie absence in tho South of Dr. Steven) performed the operation of trephining to relieve the pressure on the brain. We regret to learn this morning that the injured man’s condition is still very critical. Mr Stewart has his headquarters at Waverley, where his home is. He is much esteemed among his fellow-workers.
